As my first act as the new bureaucrat of the wiki, I have made Zev an admin, and gave Shroom back his admin rights since JS removed them.

As most of you may know, me and DRJ have been going on editing sprees on the Wiki lately. I intend to read all of the original RPG topic and add the information on the characters and everything onto the Wiki.

A just and noble cause. I wish you luck on this suicide mission.

In that case, I recommend you start by double-checking my edits to the Klak and F-Klak pages. We're trying to get the Klak page to Featured Article status. (This should really be a big to-do: have every main character article at FA.)

Anyways, as you know, there is a whole issue with Books LLC and their publishing of our Wiki's content.

I'm sending a second email regarding BZPower, and the Keruvim (which is from another author entirely). They're not going to be happy. What else should I talk about?

Not that we were making money from it. The way I see it we got out of this pretty nicely, we got free a bit of free advertising.

I can understand being angry about other wikis but I don't see why anyone not from this forum would want to buy this book anyway so they basicly did us a service.

What's the downside to this that you all seem so annoyed about? I don't see it.

Should we point out that half of the stuff that happens is copyrighted by SOMEONE?
Like Transformers is to hasbro
Or Kingdom Hearts to Square Enix?
Or any of the Anime Zev and I have brought in?

LOL, of course YOU would be in favor of this.

The problem is that they are taking people's stories and publishing them without our permission. BZPB never got advertised, only Wikia did. The BZPower authors are not happy that their epics (which shouldn't be published in books anyway since you can read them for free) were published without their permission. For the epics writers, it's plagiarism. For us, it's piracy. The whole thing is a struggle over intellectual property. Rather than publishing their own content, they take it from random people on the internet.

Plus, like you said, no one is going to buy it. So why are they taking our ideas? It's a dumb way of making a buck. No one knows about these books except LLC and those who are aware of the scam, so there is literally no beneficial advertising whatsoever.

No harm done then. I haven't actually read any wiki terms and service stuff at all but we should expect this sort of thing to happen. The content we've put up probably doesn't belong to any of us anymore.

Peoples stories are now on the internet to read for free and by the price of the books I suppose they must be quite good quality. There is no target market except for the people already reading and using wikis. LLC are just saying if you want this stuff put together nicely in an actual book, here it is.

I'm not buying one but I just don't have a problem with it anymore. Thinking about it I don't know why anyone would be angry about this.

I see plenty of reasons, and I listed them. But oh well, that's just us. Defend whoever you want.

By the way, they claim to be non-fiction publishers. Either we're their first fiction piracy publication or they have a neat categorization system.

IANAL (I Am Not A Lawyer), but I believe that, under the terms of the CC-BY-SA licence all Wikia content is licenced under, they can copy our content all they want, as long as they give proper credit. It's kind of stupid that they can do that without even asking the original authors, but there you are. Blame the stupid "OMG FREE KULTURE" people for that.

If we want to prevent further s##t like this happening again, we could move to a lower-profile wiki farm. That would require finding one (I've already got two candidates if anyone's interested), and then having a big discussion about whether to move.

Pros of moving:

• Not having to deal with Wikia's stupidity
  
• New host will not be as high-profile as Wikia, and therefore unlikely to be targeted by idiots like these
  
• We will have access to technical features Wikia refuses to include
  

Cons of moving:

• We are relatively well-known under the Wikia URLs
  
• Bans will not carry over, which means all our banned users will be free to come back and cause havoc until they get banned on the new site
  

If there's any other pros or cons people can think of, please go ahead and post them.

Also, KoN, before you remind me, ShoutWiki is not an option. Why? Because they have been down for months.
